Pedro Pascal reveals ‘The Last of Us’ season two is “fucking heartbreaking”
Pedro Pascal has warned fans of the smash hit apocalyptic thriller The Last of Us that the upcoming second series is “fucking heartbreaking”, as it delves deeper into the world of pandemic zombies set out to destroy civilisation.
Pascal stars as protagonist Joel, alongside British actor Bella Ramsey as Ellie, as the pair continue their fight for survival, five years on from the events of the first series.
The trailer for this hotly anticipated next instalment from American network HBO was unveiled over the weekend, with co-creator Craig Mazin explaining: “A lot of what’s going on in the season is evolution and change. Ellie is growing up, and she is changing. This town of Jackson is growing up. It is expanding. It’s taking in refugees. And the world outside is changing. It was important to us to always move the ball forward with the infected.”
In response, its leading man Pascal said the series was “fucking heartbreaking”, before joking that Mazin and fellow showrunner Neil Druckmann were “sick people”.
Mazin continued: “I think you probably should expect the unexpected. […] All I can say is that if you give us your trust, by the time we get to the end of the season, I think you’ll be happy.”
Fans of the show will be waiting expectantly to find out what happens as it could spell out the final ending of the hit video game adaptation. HBO boss Francesca Orci previously said that The Last of Us would likely last four seasons, but co-creator Druckmann seemingly cast doubt on that statement.
He said there was little chance of a trilogy being set, adding: “I guess the only thing I would say is don’t bet on there being more. This could be it.”
The second series of The Last of Us will be released on April 13th.
