Paul Simon’s daughter criticises Richard Gere for selling childhood home to developers

Paul Simon‘s daughter, Lulu, has hit out at Hollywood star Richard Gere for selling her childhood home to real estate developers.

Lulu is one of Simon’s three children with singer Edie Brickell, who he married in 1992. He also shares sons Adrian and Gabriel with Brickell, as well as having a son, Harper, from a previous marriage. All four of the siblings are musicians.

Now, they have all flown the nest, and the property they once called home in New Canaan, Connecticut, was sold to Gere for more than $10 million in 2022.

However, last year, Gere parted company with the luxury estate when he moved with his family to Spain, and it was picked up by SBP Homes in 2024 for the costly sum of $10.75 million.

Taking to Instagram Stories, Lulu claimed that Gere “bought my childhood home, promised he would take care of the land as condition of his purchase” but “proceeded to never actually move in & just sold it to a developer as 9 separate plots.”

If anybody was unclear on Lulu’s opinion, she reinforced her feelings by adding, “Just in case anyone was wondering if I still hate Richard Gere–I do!”

Lulu then shared an image of the Hollywood star and added pets to the background of the photo, which she captioned, “I hope my dead pets buried in that back yard haunt you until you descend into a slow and unrelenting madness.”

Following Gere’s purchase of the property, it was reported by the New Cannon Advertiser (per Rolling Stone) that the actor’s lawyer ruled out the prospect of the home becoming commercial property in a Planning and Zoning Commission meeting in 2023.

David Ricci reportedly said: “I have received phone calls from four or five neighbors (who were) very concerned … if this was going to be some sort of big commercial operation, and it’s really not.”

Ricci also noted how Gere and his wife, Alejandra Silva, were raised on farms, stating, “They’re very interested in farms and teaching their kids about farms.”

The couple have since relocated with their children to the Spanish capital, Madrid, and chose a metropolitan rather than living in rural Connecticut.
