Paul Mescal wants people to know “as little as possible” about The Beatles before watching biopics

Paul Mescal has said he wants people to know “as little as possible” about The Beatles before watching the upcoming set of biopics on the band.

The actor is set to play Paul McCartney in The Beatles: A Four-Film Cinematic Event, directed by Sam Mendes, and although some details on casting have emerged, much of the production for the films remain under wraps as they prepare to be released in 2028.

Speaking in a new interview with Variety, Mescal refused to be drawn on any solid details regarding his coveted role, but said that fans should limit their knowledge of the iconic Fab Four prior to seeing the movies.

“To be honest, I can say very little — actually contractually, but also I’m kind of keen to say very little about it, because I’m excited that people want to know so much about it,” the actor said.

Mescal continued: “The four of us inside it are pinching ourselves,” referencing his Beatles co-stars in Harris Dickinson, Barry Keoghan, and Joseph Quinn, who are playing John Lennon, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison, respectively.

Ultimately, the actor said it was better, at this point in time, to remain scant on the details. “I don’t want to get into the Beatles thing, not coyly, but actually because I think the world hopefully will benefit from knowing as little as possible going into it.”

He added: “We’re a while away from finishing. That’s my job for all of 2026,” coming off the back of his current role as William Shakespeare in Hamnet, which is doing the rounds of awards season. It most recently picked up the prize for ‘Best Motion Picture – Drama’ at the 2026 Golden Globes.

Last month, the cast for the films was expanded beyond the core characters of The Beatles, with Saoirse Ronan confirmed to play Linda McCartney, Aimee Lou Wood as Pattie Boyd, Mia McKenna-Bruce as Maureen Starkey, and Anna Sawai as Yoko Ono.

Additionally, David Morrissey will play McCartney’s father, Jim McCartney, Leanne Best as Lennon’s Aunt Mimi, and James Norton as the band’s manager Brian Epstein.

The cast is rounded out by Harry Lloyd as producer George Martin, Bobby Schofield as tour manager Neil Aspinall, Daniel Hoffman-Gill as Mal Evans, press officer Derek Taylor will be played with Arthur Darvill, and manager Allen Klein will be played by Adam Pally.
