Paul McCartney and Tom Hanks among list of special guests announced for ‘Saturday Night Live’ 50th anniversary special

As Saturday Night Live prepares to celebrate over half a century on the air, Tom Hanks and Paul McCartney have been announced among the various special guests on the special.

The other guests announced are Adam Driver, Ayo Edebiri, Bad Bunny, Dave Chappelle, John Mulaney, Kim Kardashian, Martin Short, Miley Cyrus, Paul Simon, Pedro Pascal, Peyton Manning, Quinta Brunson, Robert De Niro, Sabrina Carpenter, Scarlett Johansson, Steve Martin, and Woody Harrelson. More are set to be revealed in the coming days.

This comes after a series of retrospectives on the famous New York variety show, including the four-part documentary SNL 50: Beyond Saturday Night on Peacock as well as Questlove’s special devoted to the various musical acts that have graced the SNL stage over the years.

Hanks has been a friend of the Saturday Night Live cast for years now, having recurring roles and even starring in the sketch celebrating ‘The Five-Timers Club,’ having appeared the show over ten times during its run.

McCartney has also been a fairly recurring guest on the show, serving as the musical guest four times. While many comedians on the show have been known to impersonate his signature Liverpudlian affectations for various sketches, his last visit was in December 2012, where he teamed up with the remaining members of Nirvana for a performance of the song ‘Cut Me Some Slack.’

This also comes soon after the show’s plans for a homecoming concert featuring major artists from throughout the show’s run and hosted by Saturday Night Live alum and late-night host Jimmy Fallon. Despite featuring major names such as David Byrne, Brandi Carlile, and The Roots, there has been no word on whether McCartney will be performing at the ceremony.

The anniversaries of the legendary show have been made after major spin-offs featuring the famous 30 Rock brand hitting the big screen. In preparation for the show’s anniversary, Jason Reitman’s Saturday Night captured the feeling of Lorne Michaels putting the show together in its inception, including depictions of comedy legends such as Bill Murray and Chevy Chase.

SNL50: The Anniversary Special is set to air on February 16th, 2025 and 8PM ET.
