Surprise: Paul McCartney’s ‘The Man on the Run’ audiobook is available now

Paul McCartney has surprised fans with the release of the audiobook accompaniment to his Man on the Run documentary on Audible’s Word and Music series.

The new audiobook shares its name with Morgan Neville’s new documentary, Man on the Run, which premiered in late February.

It includes extended interviews that were conducted for the film but were editorially shortened for the sake of its runtime and main thematic leaning.

The new release also includes specially selected musical performances from McCartney’s catalogue, such as ‘Maybe I’m Amazed’, ‘Band on the Run, ‘Live and Let Die’, and more. The audible upload is two hours and 12 minutes long.

Explaining the surprise release, McCartney shared in a statement, “I don’t normally spend a lot of time looking back, but I was flattered when Morgan said he was interested in this period.”

He went on, “The first bit of Wings was quite hard work and not very rewarding, but eventually we got some songs under our belts that were hits.”

With much praise for his long-time interviewer, he added, “Morgan got me to think about stuff I hadn’t thought about for a long time. He was asking all the right questions, and I was happy to be transported back.”

As per the official Audible description, the audiobook shares his “story of creative resilience, personal growth, and the courage to follow his instincts no matter where they led: a lesson not just in creative freedom, but in what it means to grow up.”

The larger project is a critically acclaimed documentary featuring archival footage from the 1970s, photographs taken by Linda McCartney, as well as interviews with Paul, Linda, Mary, and Stella McCartney. Artists including Sean Ono Lennon, Mick Jagger, and Chrissie Hynde also contribute.

Recently, the musical great also announced his first concert dates of 2026; he is billed for two shows at the 1,200-capacity Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles at the end of March.
