Paul McCartney’s new album, ‘The Boys of Dungeon Lane’, gets Taylor Swift’s seal of approval
Paul McCartney’s new album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, has earned the approval of Taylor Swift.
The record, which marks McCartney’s first in six years, arrived on shelves and streaming platforms on May 29th.
After having a few days to live with The Boys of Dungeon Lane, Swift took to Instagram Stories to give it some love, writing, “Never not inspired by this eternally exceptional artist.”
The respect between McCartney and Swift is completely mutual. In a recent interview with BBC Radio 2, which aired on May 25th, the Beatles legend spoke about his appreciation for Swift’s songwriting and why he doesn’t feel positioned to give her any advice.
When asked for his thoughts about contemporary music, he shared, “Going more to modern day, I like a lot of… there’s a lot of girl singers, and there wasn’t when we were kids. It was all guys for a long time, I’ve met a few of these girls and admired what they’re doing. I think they are good singers, Taylor (Swift) is very good. She’s very clever.”
McCartney then compared her success with The Beatles, adding, “You do see the parallel, you know like, fame and the amount of fame, and the worldwide fame that Taylor Swift has and that we had. But, I don’t think she needs any advice, to tell you the truth.”
He also revealed that he met Swift, as well as Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish and Sabrina Carpenter at a party hosted by his daughter Stella, stating, “They’re really cool people, they’re very good, so basically, I like their voices. If they needed any advice, I’d be happy to give it. I don’t think they do.”
In a four-star review of McCartney’s new album, Far Out observed, “On one hand, The Boys of Dungeon Lane is a good but not great collection of songs, but on the other, also perhaps the best album ever recorded by an 83-year-old?”
The review adds, “I’ve always imagined that McCartney must find it odd to be asked every day about things he did 60 years ago, considering how much he’s done since. But as it turns out, what he really wants to talk about was stuff that he did 70 years ago.”
Meanwhile, next week, on June 10th, McCartney will be discussing the album at a special in-conversation event held at The Roundhouse in London.
