
‘Ozark’ and ‘Ghostbusters’ actor Harris Yulin dead at 87
Scarface, Ghostbusters and Ozark star Harris Yulin has died aged 87.
The Emmy-nominated actor passed away on June 10th in New York following a cardiac arrest. This was confirmed by his family and manager, Sue Leibman, via Deadline.
Yulin had a career in film, TV, and Broadway. On stage, he appeared in performances of Hedda Gabler, The Price, The Visit and Watch on the Rhine, which was his Broadway debut in 1980. His final Broadway performance was in 2001.
His television career saw him land a major role on the Netflix series Ozark. The Los Angeles-born star also had memorable roles in Veep, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, And Just Like That, Billions, Divorce, and WIOU.
During his life, Yulin acted alongside many huge names, playing a corrupt security advisor alongside Harrison Ford in Clear and Present Danger in 1994. He also starred alongside Rowan Atkinson in the 1997 Bean movie. Yulin was Emmy-nominated for his work on Frasier in 1996.
Before his passing, Yulin was set to start work on the MGM+ series American Classic, starring Kevin Kline and Laura Linney, directed by Michael Hoffman. Reacting to the news of his passing, Hoffman paid tribute to the artist, stating, “Harris Yulin was very simply one of the greatest artists I have ever encountered. His marriage of immense technique with an always fresh sense of discovery gave his work an immediacy and vitality and purity I’ve experienced nowhere else.”
Hoffman continued, “And what he was as an actor, he was as a man, the grace, the humility, the generosity. All of us at American Classic have been blessed by our experience with him. He will always remain the beating heart of our show.”
In the early 1970s, Yulin had a high-profile relationship with actress Faye Dunaway. After this, he married actor Gwen Welles from 1975 until her death in 1993. He is survived by his second wife, Kristen Lowman.
