Oscars 2026: Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan to lead Rob Reiner tribute
Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan are set to reunite at this year’s Oscars to honour the late filmmaker, Rob Reiner.
The pair are set to reunite for the ‘In Memoriam’ segment of the show on March 15th, according to Variety, honouring the When Harry Met Sally director after he and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead at their home in Los Angeles late last year.
The couple’s bodies were found with injuries consistent with a knife attack on December 14th, with their son Nick subsequently charged with their murders. The 32-year-old has pleaded not guilty to the case, with the next court date having been set for April 29th.
If convicted of the two counts of murder of his parents, Nick Reiner could face the death penalty or a life prison sentence without the possibility of parole.
Crystal will reportedly lead the tribute at the Oscars by talking about the impact of Reiner’s life and legacy, while Ryan and stars of some of his various other Hollywood films will appear on stage with him.
Crystal was one of Reiner’s closest friends, and along with Larry David, Martin Short, and Albert Brooks released a statement at the time of he and his wife’s deaths that said: “There is no other director who has his range. From comedy to drama to ‘mockumentary’ to documentary he was always at the top of his game. He charmed audiences. They trusted him. They lined up to see his films.”
Referring to Reiner and Michele, they added: “We were their friends, and we will miss them forever.”
The Oscars is set to be held on March 15th in Los Angeles, with comedian and talk show host Conan O’Brien on hosting duties.
It is already shaping up to be a historic year for the awards ceremony, with Sinners breaking records by becoming the most nominated film in its history, with a massive 16 nods.
