Oscars 2025 nominations: Jamie Lee Curtis misses out on ‘Best Supporting Actress’

The Oscar nominations for ‘Best Supporting Actress’ have been announced, with Monica Barbaro being nominated for A Complete Unknown, Ariana Grande for Wicked, Felicity Jones for The Brutalist, Isabella Rossellini for Conclave and Zoe Saldana for Emilia Perez.

All the women in this category are first-time Oscar nominees besides Felicity Jones, who was nominated for her performance in The Theory of Everything. Surprisingly, this is a first-time nomination for Rossellini, who was never considered by the Academy for performances in films such as Blue Velvet and Death Becomes Her.

While many people are celebrating Grande, Barbaro, and Saldana’s inclusion in this category, many fans are claiming Jamie Lee Curtis has been snubbed for her performance in Gia Coppola’s latest film, The Last Showgirl.

Starring Pamela Anderson, the film follows a Las Vegas showgirl who discovers that the show she has headlined for many decades will soon be closing, reconciling with her past and the community she’s built as she plans her final act.

Anderson was nominated for ‘Outstanding Female Actor in Leading Role in a Motion Picture’ by the Screen Actors Guild, with the film also being nominated for a Golden Globe and Bafta award.

However, Curtis stars alongside Anderson in the film, with fans expressing their disappointment in the actor not being nominated for a ‘Best Supporting Actress’ Oscar. Curtis won an Oscar for ‘Best Supporting Actress’ after her performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once in 2023, which was her first Academy Award. Many people suspected she might be in the running for an additional award, but Curtis has not been recognised for her role as Annette in The Last Showgirl.
