‘Oppenheimer’ wins two Sound Editors’ Golden Reel Awards

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer secured more award success at the 71st Sound Editors’ Golden Reel Awards ceremony, taking home two titles for achievements in sound editing on March 3rd.

Following its release last summer, Oppenheimer was a box office sensation and its success has now carried on into award season. Last month, the movie picked up seven Baftas, including ‘Best Film’, and three Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Now, the biographical film has received award recognition for its sound editing at this year’s Sound Editors’ Golden Reel Awards. It notched up wins in the ‘Feature Dialogue / ADR’ and ‘Feature Effects / Foley’ categories. The film was also nominated for the ‘Feature Motion Picture’ award in music editing, but lost out to Maestro.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse took home the sound editing award in the ‘Feature Animation’ category, while Society of the Snow took home the title for ‘Foreign Language Feature’.

Maestro and Oppenheimer will go head to head once more for the ‘Best Sound’ award at this year’s Academy Awards ceremony, which takes place on March 10th. Other nominees include The Zone of Interest and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.

With 13 Oscar nods in total, Oppenheimer is the most nominated film in this year’s awards ceremony. Notably, Nolan’s movie is also up for ‘Best Picture’, ‘Best Director’, and ‘Best Adapted Screenplay’.

In a four-and-a-half star review of Oppenheimer, Far Out wrote, “Even without the usual set pieces of The Dark Knight and Interstellar, Ludwig Göransson’s score can still shine in moments of drama, if not action. However, at times, it can tend to overshadow the more vital dialogue in crucial scenes.”
