Oasis honour Diego Maradona during ‘Live Forever’ in Buenos Aires

During the opening night of their Latin America tour, Oasis paid homage to the late Diego Maradona while playing ‘Live Forever’.

Their first date in South America took place at the Estadio River Plate in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on November 15th, where they will play again tonight (November 16th).

Oasis honoured the late Argentinian footballing legend, who died in 2020, at the home of River Plate, despite him also being an icon of Boca Juniors, the fierce rivals of River Plate.

Throughout their Oasis Live ’25 tour, the band have previously honoured the late Liverpool footballer Diogo Jota, as well as Ozzy Osbourne on the LED screen behind them during ‘Live Forever’, like what they did with Maradona in Buenos Aires.

Liam Gallagher also said to the crowd before ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Star’, “This next one’s for Diego Maradona.”

The band notably had a history with Maradona. Liam once told Noisey, “We were in Argentina, we had done a gig. And the next minute we were sat in the bar having a fucking drink, and then about 30 people have come, legging it in. It was like the Ant Hill Mob. And we were going ‘who the fucking hell is that?’”

He then explained that they discovered all the fuss was due to Maradona, who Oasis then did their best to try to meet, which led to Noel and Liam finding themselves in a room with the World Cup winner. “Maradona’s in the middle of the room fucking doing football tricks with a bottle top,” he recalled.

However, there was a strange atmosphere in the room, as Gallagher recalled, “I was going ‘Look, it’s a bit moody in here, let’s get a quick picture with him and we’ll fuck off.’”

It then took a further dark turn when Maradona, who Gallagher said is “fucking sweating his bollocks off”, threatened to have the band shot through an interpreter. Thankfully, they left unscathed, and the experience only heightened their idolisation of the footballer.

The Oasis Live ’25 tour is set to conclude on November 23rd at the Estadio MorumBIS in São Paulo, Brazil.
