Oasis dominate the charts as reunion is in full swing

Oasis are flying high in the UK music charts, after three iconic reunion performances have fans and critics convinced that the Britpop brothers are back and better than ever.

In the UK Albums Chart, Time Flies – 1994-2009 sits squarely at number one. Chasing its tail, What’s the Story Morning Glory comes in at number two, while the genre-defining Definitely Maybe is currently at number four. Nestled between them is Sabrina Carpenter’s Short N’ Sweet, an unlikely pairing to say the least.

The story is similar on the UK Singles Chart. They have three tracks in the top 20: ‘Acquiese’, ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’, and ‘Live Forever’.

In Far Out’s recent deep dive into Oasis’ historical success on the charts, Lucy Harbron reveals that “the biggest shock is ‘Wonderwall’. Given that it’s one of the most well-known songs ever written, it’s surprising to know that it never hit the top of the charts. Instead, it peaked in second place and never crept over the line for the number one trophy.”

Tonight, the Britpop brothers will play their second of five homecoming shows at Manchester’s Heaton Park. During the first show on July 11th, police issued a dispersal order and arrested six people on an array of offences, such as suspicion of fraud, intent to sell cannabis, and drunk and disorderly.

During their first Heaton Park show, fans playfully booed the band as they made a brave tribute for their 1997 song ‘D’You Know What I Mean?’ Liam introduced the song with a strange tribute: “I’d like to dedicate this to the greatest manager of all time, Mr Pep Guardiola.”

Guardiola is the Manchester City Football Club boss and was in attendance at the first Heaton Park show. A crescendo of boos broke out from a portion of the 80,000 fans watching. Liam had none of it, retorting playfully, “Who you fucking booing, who you fucking booing?”

Oasis will play four more shows at Heaton Park on 12th, 16th, 19th and 20th of July, before heading straight to London’s Wembley Stadium, and eventually up to Edinburgh.
