Oasis reveal plans to celebrate ‘Definitely Maybe’ 30th anniversary

Over the past few days, the official Oasis social media accounts have been stirring conjecture among fans. Elusive clips have had some exhuming periodical rumours of a Liam and Noel Gallagher reunion, while others staunchly denied that the brothers could possibly reconcile anytime soon.

Now, on May 23rd, the band has put its remarkably attentive fanbase out of its misery, revealing plans for the 30th anniversary of its emphatic debut album, Definitely Maybe. The album contained seminal classics like ‘Supersonic’, ‘Live Forever’ and ‘Slide Away’, gaining an immediate nationwide fanbase and balancing the books at Alan McGee’s Creation Records following the alleged losses incurred by My Bloody Valentine’s Loveless

On August 30th, 2024, the Definitely Maybe 30th anniversary deluxe edition reissue arrives complete with all tracks recorded during a session at Monnow Valley Studios, as well as outtakes from the final version recorded at Sawmills Studios in Cornwall.

The songs have been newly mixed for the first time in a joint effort by Noel Gallagher and Callum Marinho. A previously unreleased demo version of ‘Sad Song’ is also included in the release. While Noel sang on the original version, which was a bonus track on early Definitely Maybe issues, the demo features vocals by Liam.

The record is packaged in new artwork created by original art designer Brian Cannon, known as Microdot, and original sleeve photographer Michael Spencer Jones. It also includes fresh sleeve notes from McGee and journalist Hamish MacBain.

The Definitely Maybe reissue is now available for pre-order across several physical formats: a limited edition Deluxe 4LP, Deluxe 2CD, and an exclusive coloured vinyl edition. The coloured vinyl editions include a blue and white marble 2LP inspired by ‘Up In The Sky’ and a pink and white marble 2LP inspired by the ‘Digsy’s Dinner’ lyric, “Strawberries and cream.”

The 30th-anniversary mix will also be available on a limited edition blue cassette and digital formats. All physical and streamed formats will feature the 2014 remastered version of the album.

Meanwhile, this summer, Liam Gallagher is set to celebrate the Definitely Maybe anniversary by touring arenas across the United Kingdom and playing the seminal album in full.

A reunion for Oasis remains an unlikely proposition. While former bassist Andy Bell told Virgin Radio earlier this year that he thinks “they probably will” get back together, Liam took to his X account to rubbish the claims, posting, “Andy bell from ride the shoe gazing phenomenon should really not be getting people’s hopes up it’s not big and and it’s not clever LG x”.
