NYC Homecoming Concert celebrating the return of live music to the city has been shut down midway through owing to fears about Hurricane Henri.
60,000 vaccinated concert-goers had descended on Central Park to witness the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Patti Smith and The Killers, but were only able to take in Journey, LL Cool J, Santana and Barry Manilow before the weather worsened.
An announcement was made midway through proceedings, instructing: “Due to approaching severe weather, all persons should move quickly and calmly to the nearest exit and proceed to your vehicles and protected areas outside of the festival site. Please seek shelter for your safety.”
As of yet, it is unclear whether the festival will be reorganised or go ahead without a crowd as has been speculated by CNN. An announcement with further details is expected in the coming days.
Unfortunately, fans in attendance missed out on the chance to see Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon, Patti Smith, Elvis Costello and The Killers.
Fortunately, however, the precautionary measures ensured that everyone was able to vacate the festival grounds safely, and The Killers were kind enough to host an impromptu acoustic set backstage which you can watch below.
