Noel Gallagher has been writing new material in the studio, Kelly Jones confirms
Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones has claimed that Noel Gallagher has been writing new material in the studio amid Oasis’ reunion.
In a recent interview with NME, Jones shared the news within a discussion of the new Stereophonics’ new album, Make ’em Laugh, Make ’em Cry, Make ’em Wait. The vocalist is friends with both Noel and Liam Gallagher, as Stereophonics have often shared the stage with the brothers throughout the years.
The frontman and guitarist revealed that Noel hinted at the new music in a conversation between the two. “I asked him what he’d been up to, and he said he’d been doing some writing in the studio,” Kelly explained. He continued: “I’m assuming he’s doing some writing for either his stuff or if they’re [Oasis] gonna bring out a couple songs, I don’t know.”
This comes only months before the Oasis summer reunion tour. Lloyds Banking Group has recently reported that this tour has collectively cost fans over £2 million in fraudulent ticket scams.
Later in the same interview, Jones stressed how vital the upcoming tour is for the wider musical landscape. “Whether you like their music or not, it’s an energy that’s being put to […] hundreds of thousands of people on a daily basis,” he commented. “That can only be a good thing no matter who the performer is. People need it now more than they’ve needed it in a long time,” he mused.
Jones has previously shared another anecdote about Noel, as referenced by WalesOnline. When the Stereophonics song ‘Dakota’ hit the top of the charts, Noel sent Kelly a text that read: “‘Eh, you’ve had your first number one.’ Underneath that, in capital letters, he wrote: ‘But you used a fucking synthesiser …!'”
Noel Gallagher previously announced in January 2024 that he was in the studio working on an acoustic offering “for fans”.
However, Noel scrapped the whole thing within a few months before announcing the Oasis reunion. On Matt Morgan’s podcast, he revealed: “It got six tunes in, and I was so bored with the arrangement of it all and the kind of slow pace of it all and, actually that made me think, right fick it, I’m not doing it. It was too down.”
