Noel Gallagher “turned down” chance to reform Oasis, according to Liam Gallagher
Liam Gallagher has claimed that his brother Noel turned down an offer to reunite Britpop icons Oasis. The idea was proposed by Liam for the anniversary tour of their seminal debut album Definitely Maybe.
In October, lead singer Liam shared plans for the Definitely Maybe tour, which included 12 dates across the UK and Ireland. Liam will reportedly be performing the debut album in full, plus some “naughty” B-sides from Oasis’ early days.
According to the frontman, in a new interview with Mojo, the tour was also planned to include a full reformation of Oasis, reuniting the warring brothers. Despite Noel’s repeated claims that he is not wholly opposed to the idea of an Oasis reunion, Liam told the publication, “Noel? He ain’t fucking doing it”.
“I did call him!” the singer affirmed, “Well, my people called Noel’s management team,” Continuing, “We put an offer on the table for an Oasis thing – because we got offered it – and he said no. It was a big tour – a lot of money. He turned it down. I get it, he’s got a divorce going down. I’ll do the Definitely Maybe thing and have a nice time without him.”
The potential for an Oasis reunion has been one of the biggest cases of ‘will they, won’t they?’ in recent musical history. For years, the estranged brothers have been teasing each other about a reformation through various interviews, while fans are left in a perpetual state of anticipation.
While the members of Oasis remain at war, their Britpop classmates in Blur and Pulp both witnessed successful reunion tours last year.
Asked whether 2025 might be the year that the Mancunian brothers finally bury the hatchet, for the anniversary of (What’s The Story) Morning Glory, Liam replied, “It’s down to the universe. It’ll happen when it happens, it’s not in our hands anymore.”
