Noel Gallagher to release new documentary
Noel Gallagher has announced a new documentary series about the making of his most recent album, Council Skies.
Last June, Gallagher shared his long-awaited fourth studio record under the Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds name. Council Skies was released to a positive reception from critics and audiences, including a four-star review from Far Out which won Gallagher our ‘Album of the Week’ title.
“This new record is by no means a work of innovative genius, nor was it intended to be,” Far Out wrote at the time of release, “Gallagher has brought his fans back to the start with a well-structured, well-produced and well-sung discographic entry.
Now, to mark the one-year anniversary of the record, the former Oasis star has announced his plans to release a documentary about the making of Council Skies, shot by Gallagher’s daughter, Anaïs.
The announcement states that the documentary series will provide fans with “exclusive fly on the wall access to the recording process at Noel’s Studio, Lone Star Sound.” The caption accompanies a short video of Gallagher gently strumming an acoustic guitar.
The series will be made up of four parts, with episode one available to watch now through Noel Gallagher F.C., the “official hub for all things Noel Gallagher.” A new episode is set to arrive each week following.
The Making of Council Skies isn’t the only documentary project Gallagher has been involved in this year. The rock ‘n’ roll star also made an appearance in Disney+’s four part documentary series, Camden, which explores the cultural impact of the London borough and was executive produced by Dua Lipa.
Gallagher also has plans to celebrate an anniversary from his Oasis days. The Britpop band’s iconic debut album, Definitely Maybe, is set to turn 30 later this year. The album spawned sone of the band’s greatest hits, including ‘Supersonic’ and ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Star’.
To mark the occasion, a 30th anniversary deluxe reissue of the record will be released, featuring original recordings and demos. Gallager joined forces with engineer Callum Marinho to mix the record, while original designer Brian Cannon returned to create new artwork for the re-release.
The 30th anniversary reissue of Definitely Maybe is now available to pre-order on physical formats, set for release on August 30th, 2024. New episodes of The Making of Council Skies will arrive weekly.
