Noel Gallagher plays down reports of Oasis reunion
During his headline set at Y Not Festival in Derbyshire on August 4th, Noel Gallagher took time to address mounting speculation surrounding a possible Oasis reunion.
The rumour mill has been sent into overdrive on many occasions since the band parted ways in 2009, and despite whatever project either Gallagher brother are currently promoting, talk of an Oasis reunion is never far from the topic of conversation. Furthermore, as 2025 coincides with the 30th anniversary of (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, it would be a timely occasion for an Oasis comeback.
Additionally, as the show with Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds at Y Not marked his final performance on his current touring cycle, this has led some Oasis fans to believe that an Oasis reunion is imminent. To pour more fuel on the fire, Liam Gallagher only has a smattering more shows in his calendar for the remainder of the year, which theoretically opens the door to a potential reunion.
During a recent interview with The Times, Liam’s son, Gene, shared his desire to see Oasis reunite, as well as stating, “I get the feeling my dad wants it, too. Let’s hope it happens. It’s easier to speak about after a couple of pints.”
However, according to Noel, fans shouldn’t get their hopes up. Responding to a question from a fan about a potential Oasis reunion, Gallagher gleefully told the Derbyshire crowd, “When are we going to see you? In 2025 or 2026? The answer is neither.”
Gallagher then added: “I’ll take the fact that you’re booing as a fucking compliment! Well, this is the last night of our tour tonight… We’ve been on tour for over a year so we’re sick of the sight of each other. So, we need to get away from it for a while.”
For a large portion of the last 12 months, Gallagher has toured extensively around the world, and won’t play again until there is new High Flying Birds material, revealing, “I don’t know if we’re gonna tour again, I’ve got no idea. But we will… We’ve got to make a record first. We’ve gotta write one.”
Before bursting into an audition of the Oasis classic ‘Going Nowhere’, Gallagher signed off by saying, “We’ve gotta write one, gotta make one… do all that fucking shit. We’ve gotta go spend some money. I have no idea, I dunno but you’ll be the first to know… Right, we’re all Oasis fans, right? Buckle up.”
It remains to be seen how long it’ll be until Gallagher returns with new songs. Previously, he hoped to release his next album in 2026, but that now looks uncertain after he closed his studio for the rest of the calendar year.
The direction of his next venture remains uncertain. During an episode of the Matt Morgan podcast in April, Gallagher revealed he had “scrapped” plans to make an acoustic album, stating, “It got six tunes in, and I was so bored with the arrangement of it all and the kind of slow pace of it all and, actually what made me think, right fuck it, I’m not doing it.”
