Nikki Sixx hits out at ageing rock stars “still trying to act 25”

Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx has hit out at ageing rock stars who are still pretending to be much younger than they are.

The 66-year-old is embracing his own age and thinks others of his era should, too. Speaking to Dustin Grove, reporter at WTHR-TV, the musician looked back upon the band’s four-and-a-half-decade career.

He began, as per Blabbermouth, “You evolve as a person, as a lyricist. My evolution as a lyricist, it goes from the rawest of the raw to the most heartfelt. And that’s just as I grew as a man and my interests evolved. That changes the lyrics, but then that changes the idea of the song.”

As such, the band embraces new life experiences and “keep evolving”. This happy acceptance also translates to a calm, collected approach to an industry that often demands more than an artist can give at one time.

Sixx shared that the band are “not in a rush ever”.

He added, “We don’t have to be in a rush. In my case, I’ve got a six-and-a-half-year-old [daughter] who’s amazing. And so I wanna not be in a rush to work constantly so I can enjoy that part of it and then go out there and play for the fans. It’s about balance.”

Having figured this path out for himself, the bassist then turned to others in the industry. He ruminated, “Life changes, man. It’s cool that it changes. The thing that I don’t like is when I see artists that are still trying to act 25 and they’re 65. I don’t think that’s cool for the fans.”

Sixx is aware that this approach might not work for everyone, and nodded to the backlash they sometimes receive: “Like us or hate us, one thing about Mötley Crüeis we have so many people that we just really piss them off, and other people that they say we’ve changed their lives.”

Earlier this year, Sixx unveiled his plans to live until at least 100, writing online, “Either get your shit tighter or die a slow death crawl. We all die, some just give up sooner… I’m planning on cracking 100. That will piss off the critics.”
