Nightcrawlers frontman John Reid dead at 61

Glasgow-born musician and Nightcrawlers frontman John Reid has diedat the age of 61.

News of the singer’s death was first circulated on June 15th by his former fiancée, Mary Kiani, who posted on Facebook: “Just heard this morning that my first love John Reid died suddenly.”

She added: “We met in Glasgow but fell in love in London. We toured, we recorded, we did our vocal sessions together. We parted nine years later. Last year I got in touch with him. I said I’d love to say hello again before one of us dies. I saw him just last year in Glasgow. RIP John.”

Reid climbed to fame in the 1990s alongside his band Nightcrawlers, comprised of fellow bandmates Graham Wilson, Hugh Brankin and Ross Cambell. They made a name for themselves through a combination of acid house and jazz sonics.

Subsequently, this garnered the band their biggest hit with the dance track ‘Push the Feeling On’, which featured Reid on vocals alongside US singer MK, which reached number three in the UK charts in 1996.

Reid eventually used the Nightcrawlers moniker to produce his own solo material, releasing songs including ‘Surrender Your Love’, ‘Let’s Push It’ and ‘Don’t Let the Feeling Go’.

After the peak of Nightcrawlers’ success, Reid went on to be a producer and songwriter for a litany of artists, including a range of hits for Rod Stewart and Tina Turner’s 1999 tune ‘When the Heartache Is Over’.

In the 2000s, he also fostered a friendship with music mogul Simon Cowell, leading to him writing the X Factor single ‘A Moment Like This’ for Leona Lewis.

At this time, no cause of death for Reid has been made public.
