Nick Cave and Bad Seed bandmate Warren Ellis have elated fans by sharing their surprise new album, Carnage.
Cave had previously revealed that the album was complete, but he never provided a time-span when the record would be released. His last effort with the Bad Seeds came in 2019, on the triumphant Ghosteen, and since then, fans have been eagerly anticipating his next album. In November, Cave shared the unique live record, Idiot Prayer, recorded at an empty Alexandra Palace at the height of the first lockdown in 2020, and now Carnage has arrived.
At the end of the January edition of The Red Hand Files, he told every reader precisely what they wanted to hear: “Anyway, as promised in my last issue, I did go into the studio — with Warren — to make a record. It’s called CARNAGE.”
Then earlier this month, he addressed the album in the latest edition of his famous files; the Australian responded to a question regarding the new material by stating, “Carnage is a brutal but very beautiful record embedded in a communal catastrophe.”
Ellis also commented: “Making Carnage was an accelerated process of intense creativity. The eight songs were there in one form or another within the first two and a half days.”
The record is available on CD & Vinyl on May 28th and is available to stream in full, below.
