With Steven Spielberg already toiling away on his next semi-autobiographical movie, West Side Story has waited patiently in the wings after a series of pandemic-induced delays halted its release.
Now, fortunately, the film finally looks set for release as the first trailer has debuted alongside a string of announcements. And, to whet our whistle, we now have a new trailer to get excited about.
The film sees Ansel Elgort as Tony and Rachel Zegler as Maria, take on the classic West End musical that re-envisages Romeo & Juliet in 1950s New York City, with plenty of high-kicks, clicks, and chain swinging.
The lead stars are also joined by an ensemble cast of Ezra Menas, Julius Anthony Rubio, Ana Isabelle, Brian d’Arcy James, Corey Stoll and many more, taking on roles in the iconic dancing street gangs.
The film was originally due to hit theatres back in the winter of 2020 ready for awards season. It is now set for release this December, providing a Christmas treat for musical fans.
The trailer might not have any dialogue, but it certainly features some of the most high-octane singing and dancing since Stavros Flatley, Diversity and Susan Boyle went head to head.
