New ‘South Park’ episode brutally takes aim at Donald Trump
South Park is back for its 27th season. This time, it takes aim at Donald Trump and Paramount despite the latter recently signing a $1.5 billion deal with the long-running animated series.
The new episode was titled ‘Sermon on the Mount’ after a Bible teaching that emphasises love, compassion, and humility. At one point during the show, Trump is seen in bed with regular South Park character Satan. Topics include Trump’s attacks on Canada, the recent cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and Trump’s lawsuit against Paramount.
The plot of the show centres around Jesus visiting South Park’s schools, covered by a parody of 60 Minutes. This is a direct satire of Paramount’s recent lawsuit with Trump over the CBS show, over what he claimed was false editing of a pre-election interview with Kamala Harris, which Paramount reached a settlement agreement on.
In South Park, the parents of the children who see Jesus frequent their schools complain, after which Trump threatens to sue them for $5 billion. Jesus begs them to take the settlement, though he admits, “I didn’t want to come back and be in the school, but I had to because it was part of a lawsuit and the agreement with Paramount.”
Jesus also adds, “You guys saw what happened to CBS? Well, guess who owns CBS? Paramount. You really want to end up like Colbert? You guys got to stop being stupid… He also has the power to sue and take bribes and he can do anything to anyone. It’s the fucking president, dude… South Park is over.”
Eventually, the townsfolk settle on a $3.5 million payment but must also create pro-Trump messaging. Here, the series opted for a sprinkle of realism, depicting Trump’s character as an actual photo of the US President stitched onto an animated body. Later, a deepfake video scene depicts a naked Trump walking in a desert, poking fun at the size of his genitals.
Despite their attack on Paramount, the shouts have come from inside the house. On July 23rd, South Park Digital Studios and Park County, which are run by South Park’s creators, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, announced a licensing deal with Paramount Global for $1.5 billion.
Additionally, in the episode, Satan asks Trump directly if it’s on the Epstein list. “It’s weird that whenever it comes up, you just tell everyone to relax,” Satan remarks.
