New Gorillaz Tottenham Hotspur Stadium gig documentary confirmed

A new documentary showing the recent gig from Gorillaz at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London has been confirmed.

The band, formed by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, performed their first ever stadium show at the famous football ground on June 20th, bringing together the best of their old and new hits, as well as a massive line-up of special guests.

Subsequently, given how huge the night itself was, Hewlett confirmed to BBC News that a documentary of the show is in the works, with many fans already having picked up that cameras and drone equipment were in use at the time.

With over 30 musicians having come together from 15 countries for the gig, including the likes of Johnny Marr, Shaun Ryder, Little Simz, and Moonchild Sanelly, Hewlett was keen to express the grand scale that the show put on display.

“The aim is to reveal what it takes to put on a show like this,” he said, referencing the volume of special guests as well as the 62,850-strong crowd.

“We have artists filming themselves getting on planes from different parts of the world, then everybody coming together here in Tottenham, the arrival of the fans, the Gorillaz show, and the aftermath, when there’s only empty beer cups left,” Hewlett added.

According to the publication, the documentary is also set to feature the band’s cartoon characters 2-D, Murdoc, Noodle, and Russel, although no details on its potential release have yet been revealed.

The stadium show was only one part of a massive year for Gorillaz, with them shortly set to head out on a North American tour over the coming months, as well as confirming their first-ever Indian shows, set to take place next year.

It comes as the country was the biggest source of inspiration for their latest album, The Mountain, with the shows in Bengaluru and Mumbai taking place in January.
