After inspiring ‘The Mountain’, Gorillaz confirm their first-ever shows in India

After releasing The Mountain, an album heavily inspired by Indian music, culture, and spirituality, Gorillaz have announced their first-ever shows in India.

Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, along with a revolving myriad of other band members, will visit India in 2027 in support of the latest album, The Mountain, which was largely recorded in the country.

The ‘Clint Eastwood’ rockers have announced one show at District Arena at Terraform in Bengaluru on January 23rd, which has a capacity of between 17,000 and 20,000 people.

After this display, they will travel to Mumbai, where they will host a show at Jio World Garden in the Bandra Kurla Complex on January 27th, which has a smaller capacity of 9,000.

Special guest performers are expected to appear at the two concerts, most notably a handful of the many Indian collaborators who feature on ‘The Mountain’.

Gushing about the upcoming events, Albarn has shared that “it has been and remains a dream of mine to bring Gorillaz in all its technicolour glory to India. It’s just the beginning, and I truly look forward to the experience.”

Agreeing with this sentiment, Hewlett added, “Our dream has always been to do a tour of India. We’re very excited about returning to play shows in Mumbai and Bengaluru.”

Gorillaz recently finished undertaking a UK and Ireland tour, which saw them play in Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Cardiff, Nottingham, Liverpool, Belfast and Dublin.

In addition to headline appearances at numerous European festivals, including Primavera and Rock Werchter, they will also perform the biggest headline show of their career at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on June 20th.

In a review of their latest release, Far Out observed, “Like any good mixtape, this is a lengthy project, but like any bad album, it’s a sprawling mess that goes on too long and explores one too many tangents. Essentially, there are three different records in here that would have all made for enjoyable listens had they been separated properly. It’s a bad outfit made up of good clothes.”
