Netflix reveal release date for ‘Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F’

Eddie Murphy’s return as hotshot cop Axel Foley in the latest Beverly Hills cop sequel has finally got a release date from streaming giant Netflix.

Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, the latest adventure sees Axel Foley back on the streets of Beverly Hills trying to get to the bottom of the next case. The streaming platform has previously shared various teasers for the film, but has now announced that the film will be available on streaming starting on July 3rd, 2024.

This marks the first time in over three decades that Murphy has returned to the character, having last played the role in Beverly Hills Cop III in 1994. Since then, Murphy has become known for his roles in various comedic films, such as another reprisal of an iconic role, Coming 2 America, in 2021.

The upcoming movie will also see familiar faces joining the fold yet again, with Judge Reinhold, Paul Reiser, and John Ashton reprising their roles in the franchise. Alongside the latest case, newcomers like Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Taylour Paige will join the cast.

Director Mark Molloy told Netflix of his experience of working with Murphy: “Eddie’s such an incredible artist. He can do drama, he can do comedy – he can do anything. And he’s the same Axel Foley. He’s still on the streets. He’s still doing what he does. Obviously, with age, you get wiser. But he still has the twinkle in his eye”.

Outside of the structure of the film, Molloy also claimed the best moments came when Murphy improvised.
