Netflix cancels ‘Territory’ after just one season
Netflix has cancelled a series that was initially dubbed as the new Yellowstone. After just one series, the streaming giant confirmed Territory wouldn’t be renewed for anymore.
The show follows a family’s ongoing battle to make a living and stay afloat while owning one of the world’s largest cattle ranches in the Australian outback. It follows the Lawson family and their persistent struggles with fending off rival cattle farmers and local gangsters, each of whom is trying to reap the rewards of Lawson’s hard work.
The series had a good cast, as Anna Torv (Mindhunter) played Emily Lawson. Meanwhile, Michael Dorman (For All Mankind), Robert Taylor (Longmire), and Sam Corlett (Valhalla) also appeared in the series.
It was originally described as Yellowstone meets Succession, but unfortunately, it has failed to match the success of either of these shows. While it initially performed well upon release, and many are waiting for a season two, Netflix confirmed that it wouldn’t be looking to make any more episodes of the series.
Many are surprised by news of the show’s cancellation, given that it scored well amongst critics and fans when it was originally released. The series also climbed to the top ten list of 74 countries. However, many people dubbed the storyline silly and thought it was in poor taste for Netflix to almost blatantly rip off its rival show, Yellowstone.
The backlash in response to the news could trigger something at Netflix that would make them consider a second series; however, for now, it appears that fans might have seen the last of Territory.
