Neil Young attacks Donald Trump’s America with scathing video for ‘As Time Explodes’
Neil Young has again made a statement against Donald Trump’s premiership with the video for ‘As Time Explodes’.
While the song doesn’t contain any lyrics, Young allows for a series of photos and videos to put his point across without the requirement of words.
The video is set to the sound of the Crazy Horse song, ‘Be the Rain’, which originally arrived in 2003, and begins with footage of the East Wing demolition at the White House before featuring a banner that reads, “The 1 per cent ruins the world”.
Next up is a shot of Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk sitting together at the inauguration of Trump. It then shows a Twitter post of the same picture that is captioned, “The oligarchs gather & so starts the looting of America.”
Footage of Musk wielding a chainsaw is then also shown on-screen, as well as a flag attacking Bezos that reads, “If you can rent Venice for your wedding you can pay more tax.” Apple CEO Tim Cook is also shown at the White House.
The video for ‘As Time Explodes’ then turns its attention to Trump with a news report of him defending his decision to accept a luxury jet from Qatar, as well as footage from ICE protests, the military parade and concluding with videos from the recent No Kings protests.
‘As Time Explodes’ comes after Young previously attacked Trump on the single ‘Big Crime‘. On the song, he sings, “Don’t need no fascist rules, Don’t want no fascist school, Don’t want soldiers on our streets, There’s big crime in DC at the White House.” He also adds, “No more money to the fascists, The billionaire fascists, Time to blackout the system.”
On the final verse, Young delivers another vicious blow to Trump, “NO MORE GREAT AGAIN, No NO MORE GREAT AGAIN, There’s big crime in DC at THE White House, There’s big crime in DC at THE White House, NO MORE GREAT AGAIN, No NO MORE GREAT AGAIN.”
Young also previously revealed he was worried about not being allowed to re-enter America following his European tour, which concluded in July, due to his criticism of the current regime, writing in a post on his website: “If the fact that I think Donald Trump is the worst president in the history of our great country could stop me from coming back, what does that say for Freedom? I love America and its people and its music and its culture.”
