Neil Young and Crazy Horse cancel ‘Love Earth Tour’ for health reasons
Neil Young and Crazy Horse have halted their Love Earth Tour for health reasons. They were previously on the road in North America.
On June 26th, Young and his longtime backing band confirmed that “a couple of us” had been stricken with illness for a while. Due to the fact that they still haven’t recovered, and the physical demands of extensive touring, they have taken the decision to stop the jaunt.
The seven Canadian shows scheduled for July have been cancelled, as have three US shows penned in for late September at the Hollywood Bowl, Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder’s Ohana Festival in Southern California, and Kentucky’s Bourbon & Beyond Festival.
While the Love Earth Tour commenced in late April, Deadline reports that the veteran rockers haven’t appeared onstage since May. Furthermore, it hasn’t been confirmed what the illness is or who has specifically suffered from it within their camp.
Sharing a statement on his website, Young revealed that some of the band were taken ill sometime after their last show on May 22nd at Pine Knob Music Theatre in Clarkston, Michigan. “The Love Earth Tour has been a great experience for us so far,” the post began. “GREAT AUDIENCES AND MUSIC. WE HAVE HAD A BLAST!”
The Canadian explained: “When a couple of us got sick after Detroit’s Pine Knob, we had to stop. We are still not fully recovered, so sadly our great tour will have a big unplanned break. We will try to play some of the dates we miss as time passes when we are ready to rock again! We know many of you made travel plans and we apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for your understanding and patience.”
The singer-songwriter concluded: “Health is # 1…. We want to stay and do more shows and more albums for you…. and for for us…. With love and thanks to all of you from Crazy Horse….. Neil, Micah, Ralph and Billy… Love Earth.”
The news emerges as the group gears up to release their collection of previously unheard archival recordings from 1969, Early Daze, on June 28th. It was a consequential year for them, as it would see the band release their first album together, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, which helped pioneer the alternative rock sound. It features the searing, dovetailing guitars of Young and Crazy Horse’s late guitarist, Danny Whitten, who died of an overdose in 1972.
Young has been as busy as ever throughout 2024. In April, he and Crazy Horse released FU##IN’ UP, another album that dives into their archive. It reimagines existing numbers from their back catalogue. The Love Earth Tour was undertaken to celebrate it.
In March this year, Young returned to Spotify after the streaming platform’s exclusive deal with controversial podcaster Joe Rogan ended.
