Nadine Shah shares new single ‘Twenty Things’
In October, Nadine Shah announced the release of her upcoming fifth album, Filthy Underneath, set for release on February 23rd, 2024, and now, she’s released her new single ‘Twenty Things’.
The new track is the second cut to be taken from the album following the lead single, ‘Topless Mother’. ‘Twenty Things’ moves with a steady rhythm as Shah’s rich voice paints a relatively bleak scene. “They’re laying flowers by the bus stop/ Some poor old junkie’s lucks up,” she sings.
Filthy Underneath arrives almost four years after the release of Shah’s previous studio album, Kitchen Sink, which was widely acclaimed. While her fourth record was shared via Infectious Music, Filthy Underneath will mark the first album to be released through the new label EMI North.
While discussing her new record, Shah described it as “a love letter of sorts to the people I met whilst in recovery,” adding, “No-one tells you that you’ll end up feeling so deeply for the people you meet there.”
She added, “What makes it more intense is the fact that you know, statistically, that not everyone is going to make it once they’ve left the place.”
“Some of the most unspeakable things had happened to these people, and equally, some of the most heinous things were done by them. You’re supposed to love the sinner and hate the sin. I loved them all,” Shah continued.
Shah has also shared details of a UK tour in support of the album, which will see her visit five cities, including Newcastle and Birmingham. The run of dates begins at the end of April and concludes at the start of May.
