The 2009 movie crew who said Megan Fox should swap acting for porn: “Might be a good career option”
Look, three-time Razzie winner and nine-time Razzie nominee Megan Fox is never going to be spoken about like she’s the second coming of Meryl Streep, but there are lines, and people have crossed them.
She’d probably be one of the first to admit that she’ll never be signing on for prestige dramas in the hopes of competing for Academy Awards, but all it took was a single war of words to have a damaging effect on her career, even though she did subsequently apologise for her remarks.
Comparing anybody to Adolf Hitler isn’t the way to get ahead in Hollywood, and as much as Fox pointed to that specific outburst as the moment her career started to hit the skids, the response from several anonymous figures who worked behind the scenes on Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen went several steps beyond the pale, regardless of whether the things they said were true or not.
For his part, Bay released a statement, saying, “I don’t condone the crew letter to Megan, and I don’t condone Megan’s outlandish quotes,” but the fact remains that the vicious response was posted on his personal website, so either he approved it, or someone on his team did. They described themselves as the “loyal Transformers crew,” but they clearly had several incredibly sharp axes to grind.
Referring to her as the “dumb-as-a-rock Megan Fox,” they withheld their identities for professional reasons, but nonetheless revealed that one of them “has the often shitty job of pulling Ms Sourpants out of her trailer,” and things continued to get worse from there, with the vitriol increasing in its fury.
“When facing the press, Megan is the queen of talking trailer trash and posing like a porn star,” they wrote. “And yes, we’ve had the unbearable time of watching her try to act on set, and yes, it’s very cringe-able. So maybe, being a porn star in the future might be a good career option.”
Continuing to rage against her “disgusting, fully uneducated comment” invoking Hitler to describe the king of ‘Bayhem’, she was summarily described as “about as ungracious a person as you can ever fathom,” and, as if their opinions on the actor weren’t clear enough already, they summarised Fox as “a thankless, classless, graceless, and, shall we say, unfriendly bitch.”
Needless to say, these particular crew members, who intimated that they’d been working on Bay’s crews for years and didn’t have a bad word to say about the high-octane auteur, found Fox’s verbal assault on the director to be more than a little hypocritical, and we’re drastically underselling their feelings.
On one hand, they were simply defending the honour of someone they’d been calling their boss for an unspecified amount of time, and clearly, it had been a while, but some of it went too far. On the other hand, it’s enough to make you wonder if, when she mended fences with Bay and worked for him again on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, any of the people who so savagely attacked her in public were on the crew.
