Morrissey cancels his fifth show of the year
Morrissey has cancelled yet another show of his current tour, bringing his total number of cancelled gigs to five in 2026 so far.
The former Smiths frontman has been on a somewhat unfortunate run of late, having already pulled the plug on his US tour for gigs in Rancho Mirage, San Diego, St Louis, and Atlanta.
Adding to this growing list, the singer has now cancelled his planned show, which was set to take place at the Duke Energy Center for the Arts’ Mahaffey Theatre in St Petersburg, Florida, tonight (January 20th).
Making matters worse, this was the same venue in which Morrissey also cancelled shows last May, forming part of the litany of performances he has pulled out of over his current stint on the road.
His most recent cancellation prior to this, in Atlanta over this past weekend, was attributed to “artist illness” according to the venue.
This follows a similar pattern of Morrissey citing an “adverse reaction to prescription medication”, “extreme exhaustion”, and other medical reasons on previous occasions, including when calling off the entire South American leg of his tour.
As it stands, Morrissey is still scheduled to perform in Hollywood, Florida, on January 22nd.
It comes despite the singer recently announcing a new album, Make Up Is A Lie, which is set for release on March 6th, 2026.
He said during this announcement: “I insist on being myself in spite of much discouragement, and this new music is a valid portrait of much more to come in 2026. Born, then born, and born again. I am your lover-to-be, MORRISSEY.”
Alongside this, Morrissey also recently revealed plans for a new European tour, including one date at the O2 Arena in London, billed for February 28th. The run of dates is also set to encompass stops in Denmark, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Italy, and Spain.
