Morgan Wallen “clears the air” after shock decision to cancel Pittsburgh show
Morgan Wallen has addressed fans in a video, hoping to “clear the air” after calling off a Saturday night Pittsburgh show.
Wallen cancelled the show at the city’s Acrisure Stadium via a statement online that read, “After talking with local officials and my team, there is no choice but to cancel tonight’s show due to severe adverse weather conditions expected throughout the rest of the day and night”.
Despite performing there on Friday night, Wallen cancelled the follow-up show, citing “safety for my fans and crew as the highest priority”.
However, as the time for the show to begin rolled around, the bad weather was nowhere to be found. Fans expressed their confusion and scepticism online.
Aware of the digital gossiping, Wallen shared a video to his Instagram Story, which began, “Alright y’all, this morning, my team walked on the bus and told me they had been consulting with local officials and that I should cancel my show in Pittsburgh tonight and I said, ‘Why?’”
He continued, “They said that there was going to be strong winds in the area, and I said, ‘OK’. So, that is what I did in that moment, and I trusted my team. I understand that wind and whatever else hasn’t gotten to Pittsburgh yet.”
Wallen added, “I know it has touched some of Pennsylvania, so my heart goes out to all those affected by it. But the truth of the matter is I have a large stage that, in those conditions, could become fatal to a lot of folks around it. So, I did the best I could with the information I had in that moment.”
The singer-songwriter then addressed the online chatter, sharing, “I’ve been seeing a lot of nonsense about me that is simply not true, and I just wanted to clear the air. I think my true fans know that that’s not how I operate in general, but I had to say it.”
Wallen’s continuing tour made headlines last week as a video circulated online which showed the musician appearing to take his on-stage frustration out on a piano as it appeared to malfunction mid-song.
