Morgan Wallen breaks silence on ‘Saturday Night Live’ exit controversy
Morgan Wallen has addressed his exit during the credits sequence on Saturday Night Live for the first time. Wallen was the musical guest in March on an episode hosted by Oscar-winner Mikey Madison.
After the broadcast, he shared an image on his Instagram story that appeared to be taken from on board his private jet and bore the caption: “Get me to God’s country.” He later released a merchandise range on his website with the caption printed on various items of clothing, poking fun at the whole situation.
Now, during an episode of Caleb Pressley’s Sundae Conversations, Wallen played down the incident and revealed it wasn’t done out of anger to anybody who works on Saturday Night Live.
When asked by Pressley, “Seriously, SNL, did they make you mad?”, Wallen bluntly responded, “No, no, I was just ready to go home, I been there all week”
He was previously criticised by Saturday Night Live’s longstanding cast member Kenan Thompson, who told Entertainment Weekly: “I don’t know what goes through people’s minds when they decide to do stuff like that. I don’t know if he understood the assignment or not, or if he was really feeling a certain kind of way.”
Thompson also said Wallen “seems like a complicated individual, I guess” and described the incident as “very abrupt”, also noting, “It was already such a small grouping on the stage anyway. So it was just like, oh wow, that was pretty visible. You know what I’m saying? It was a pretty visible thing.”
Meanwhile, it was also reported that Saturday Night Live drafted in Joe Jonas to appear in a sketch due to Wallen’s refusal to participate. Page Six quoted an insider from the show who claimed Wallen was “not super friendly” on set, before adding, “They had hopes he would do the pre-tape and perhaps more, but no joy.”
