More information emerges on alleged attempted murder of Brendan Yates’ dad by ex-Turnstile guitarist Brady Ebert
More information has emerged surrounding the alleged attempted murder of Turnstile vocalist Brendan Yates’ father, William Yates, by the band’s ex-guitarist and cofounding member, Brady Ebert.
Ebert, who co-founded Turnstile in 2010, has been charged by the Montgomery County Police Department with one charge of attempted second-degree murder and another charge of assault.
William Yates suffered serious injuries, including a broken leg, due to Ebert hitting him with his vehicle on the front of Yates’ home in Silver Spring.
As per local news source The Baltimore Banner, Montgomery County District Court Judge Sherri D. Koch ordered Ebert to be held without bond after he described the allegations against Ebert as violent and targeted. Notably, the police obtained surveillance footage of the incident.
Ebert appeared in court via video conference and reportedly spoke against the recommendations of his attorney, John Costello, as he continued to insist on his innocence.
Previously, it was reported that Ebert was alleged to have been shouting obscenities and honking his horn at William’s home; the father came out to warn his daughter, her husband, and their toddler, who were also on the property.
Things escalated when Ebert allegedly swerved towards William; moving out of the way, William threw a rock at the vehicle, and the ex-guitarist drove toward the family and injured William’s legs.
William has now shared that, while on the ground waiting for an ambulance, Ebert allegedly returned and yelled that the 79-year-old “deserved it”.
From MedStar Washington Hospital Center, the injured man told the police that the former band member has been causing problems for the family of his school friend and current Turnstile vocalist, Brendan, since Ebert was let go in 2022.
Ebert, who has allegedly been “taunting [the family] for a long time,” had previously allegedly tried to hit the father with his car on a previous occasion. William shared that, on March 13th, he was walking in the neighbourhood when he claimed Ebert pulled up in his car, yelling obscenities and driving toward him.
At his bond hearing, the musician reportedly appeared agitated and pleaded with the judge to watch the video of the incident: “I will 100% guarantee that it will contradict their statements,” he insisted, referring to the police narrative.
He also deemed William Yates a “maniac” and alleged the 79-year-old threw a rock at him.
Turnstile have since released a statement on the tragic incident, which explained, “Turnstile cut ties with Brady Ebert in 2022 in response to a consistent pattern of harmful behaviour affecting himself, the band, and the community.”
The Grammy-winners continued, “In the years since, his baseless tirades have continued in public. We never addressed it. […] Over the past few months, his threats only escalated further. … We have no language left for Brady.”
