Mitski teases comeback with cryptic social media video
Mitski has teased that she is set for a comeback with a cryptic video posted to her social media channels.
The ‘My Love Mine All Mine’ singer posted the video to her Instagram on January 12th, showing her working around a kitchen while humming an unspecified tune. No other context or caption was provided to the post.
If this is set to mark a comeback for Mitski, it would be her eighth studio album, and her first of new music since she released her previous record, The Land is Inhospitable and So Are We, back in 2023.
However, in October last year, the singer released a concert film named The Land, and alongside this also surprise released a live album exclusively for a limited time on Bandcamp.
In terms of the concert film, it was shot over the course of three nights while the singer was playing at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia, in September 2024, as part of her tour for The Land is Inhospitable and So Are We.
The Land: The Live Album reflected the setlist which Mitski played alongside a seven-piece band on stage. When it was released in October on the streaming platform, fans could purchase the album, as well as all the other records in the singer’s back catalogue, through its name your price model.
As far as new sonic outputs, Mitski has not worked on her own solo music for a number of years, but most recently appeared on Florence and the Machine’s latest album Everybody Scream, which came out in October.
Mitski left her imprints on the eponymous title track as well as the song ‘Buckle’, with Florence Welch telling Zane Lowe with regard to the former: “The song really didn’t become what it was until Mitski came on board. She came to the studio one day and was like, ‘You need a chorus. I just feel like there’s a chorus coming after this drone, it’s so striking.’”
She added: “Working with her, honestly, she’s one of my favourite artists of all time.”
