Miley Cyrus shares ‘Secrets’ with Mick Fleetwood and Lindsey Buckingham
Miley Cyrus has released the deluxe edition of her latest album, Something Beautiful, which includes new single ‘Secrets’ featuring Mick Fleetwood and Lindsey Buckingham.
The song was originally written for her father, Billy Ray Cyrus. The pair have had a publicly tumultuous relationship. During a podcast with Monica Lewinsky in June, Cyrus explained, “I wrote this song about my dad, because I wanted him to tell me even though there were secrets, even though I didn’t really want to know. I wanted to be the one he felt safe enough to tell me the things that were damning and damaging to the family.”
Newly sharing the updated recording, Cyrus added to this sentiment. She wrote, “This song was written as a peace offering for someone I had lost for a time but always loved. In my experience, forgiveness and freedom are one and the same. Thank you to Lindsey Buckingham & Mick Fleetwood for bringing magic to the music. This song is for my dad.”
Billy broke the announcement himself via Instagram in late August, “For my birthday,” he wrote, “Miley gave me the gift of music and wrote me a song called ‘Secrets’ and got my favorite musicians Fleetwood Mac to play on it!”
Miley has a history with members of Fleetwood Mac. In 2020, she released a Midnight Sky remix of ‘Edge of Midnight’, which mashed up her global hit ‘Midnight Sky’ with Stevie Nicks’ hit ‘Edge of Seventeen’.
The collaboration is part of the deluxe edition of Something Beautiful, which is now available on all streaming platforms. David Byrne features on the other additional track available on the new version, titled ‘Lockdown’.
Alongside the new release from Miley, Buckingham and Stevie Nicks have now reissued their classic 1973 album, Buckingham Nicks, which had been out of print for several decades. The pair have also been in the studio working on Fleetwood Mac drummer’s upcoming solo album.
