Miley Cyrus suffered ovarian cyst rupture whilst hosting New Year’s Eve show with Dolly Parton
While hosting Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party alongside godmother Dolly Parton, Miley Cyrus has recently revealed that she was suffering an agonising medical emergency.
Speaking candidly on an appearance on The Zane Lowe Show, Cyrus opened up about that night. She revealed that she spent the entirety of December 31st dealing with an “excruciating” medical emergency. The ‘Flowers’ singer explained: “I had an ovarian cyst rupture. We didn’t know exactly what was going on so we did it.”
Performing and hosting such an arduous show took its toll on the actor and musician, with the extreme abdominal pain almost flooring her. She welcomed and supported stars such as Sia, David Byrne, Paris Hilton and others on the stage. “It was pretty traumatic because it was extremely excruciating and I did the show anyway. But it was really, really hard on me,” she admitted to Lowe.
The experience was so rattling that it almost pushed the star into early retirement. She planned to quit wholeheartedly, but a dinner with Lorne Michaels, the producer of SNL, changed her mind.
The words of encouragement were: “Six months. Everybody has six months to feel sorry for themselves, and then we start to rebuild,” and, “You have no idea how many artists have sat in this chair and told me they were quitting music. Everyone does this, everyone has these traumatic experiences.”
After taking the advice and using a short break to heal, Cyrus is back with her ninth studio album, Something Beautiful. The album will be accompanied by a “visual companion” in the form of a movie, labelled a “one of a kind pop opera” by her team.
Miley is also still battling a lawsuit filed in September 2024, in which Tempo Music Investments accused her song ‘Flowers’ of using identical melodic, harmonic, and lyrical elements from Bruno Mars’ 2013 single ‘When I Was Your Man’. The trial will be set for a later date.
