Miles Kane has returned with his soulful new single, ‘Don’t Let It Get You Down’.
The feelgood new track is brushed in the same vintage mahogany that Kane has specialised in throughout his solo career. Judging by the first release, he’s not attempting to reinvent himself with his fourth studio album. Nor is Kane isn’t letting current trends sway him from his old-school brand of shimmering 1970s pop.
‘Don’t Let It Get You Down’ is the first taste from his forthcoming new album, Change The Show, which arrives on January 21st, 2022. The comeback track features a bizarre sample from fellow Merseyside native and TV royalty Paul O’Grady.
Meanwhile, the video inexplicably stars Jimmi Simpson, known for his leading role in Westworld, and playing Liam McPoyle on It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia.
Kane says in a statement that he thanks a chance session with Sunglasses For Jaws at their Hackney studio for getting the wheels in motion for the record. “I saw myself in their energy, but also their taste and their knowledge of music,” Miles explained. “It was the first time I’d felt old!”
He added: “This album was born out of an intense period of self-reflection; having all this unexpected time on my hands. I wrote songs about big highs, big lows, daydreams, true friends and deep feelings. I learnt to let the future unfold of its own accord, while staying true to myself and that has led to what feels to me like a really uplifting album!”
‘Don’t Let It Get You Down’ is a luxurious return from Kane and feels like the singer at his most devilishly opulent.
