Mikey Madison reveals ambition to “play characters that terrify me”

Oscar-winner Mikey Madison has opened up about her career and revealed her ambition to “play characters that terrify me.”

In a new interview with Vogue Italy, the Anora star opened up about her short career thus far. After over half a decade acting in the long-running television series Better Things, Madison played Charles Manson’s girlfriend in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and has since won an Oscar for her performance in Anora.

Reflecting on her newfound success, she mused that her work playing the prostitute who becomes quickly entangled with a young Russian billionaire is “as if Sean Baker pulled me out of the darkness.”

Despite this, Madison feels ready for more. She added, “I still feel like I’m at the beginning of my career; I feel like it’s time to play characters that terrify me. I need to read a script and be scared.”

Madison reportedly keeps several notebooks in which she journals and manifests for her next big role. She also notes down all the directors she’d like to work with in a separate file. Certainly on this list are La Chimera filmmaker Alice Rohrwacher and We Need to Talk About Kevin director Lynne Ramsay.

Though she is dreaming big, Madison has been selective about her next move, rejecting the chance to appear in Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter movie opposite Ryan Gosling.

Madison’s future seems bright indeed. The Los Angeles-born star and Jeremy Allen White are reportedly under consideration to star in the sequel to The Social Network, which will follow on from the 2010 classic. She is also set to star in the new thriller film Reptilia alongside Kirsten Dunst.
