Mikey Madison to star in ‘Reptilia’ alongside Kirsten Dunst

Mikey Madison is set to star in the new thriller film Reptilia alongside Kirsten Dunst. It marks her first role following her Oscar-winning turn in Anora.

Variety reports that the American actor will star in the film, directed by Alejandro Landes Echavarría, which follows a dental hygienist who is enveloped into the dark underworld of Florida’s exotic animal trade by an elusive mermaid.

Landes Echavarría, who previously helmed the critically acclaimed hostage drama Monos, has written the script with Duke Merriman, alongside directing the project. Reptilia will be produced by his company A Stela Cine, in addition to Imperative Entertainment, Pastel and AF Films.

While distribution rights for the film have been secured in the US, the film will be presented to international buyers at the upcoming Cannes Film Market, with shooting set to commence later in the year.

Reptilia will mark Madison’s first return to the big screen since she starred in Oscar favourite Anora, which saw her beat out tough competition to score the prize for ‘Best Actress’ at this year’s awards.

It comes after she recently allegedly turned down a role in the next instalment in the Star Wars franchise, Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter movie in which she would have featured opposite Ryan Gosling.

However, the actor is in seasoned company with Dunst, who also scored herself an Oscar nod for Power of the Dog in 2021. Reptilia is just the latest in a range of pipeline projects, as she is next set to star opposite Channing Tatum in Roofman, and then in The Entertainment System is Down, directed by Ruben Östlund.

Details on further casting and a release date for Reptilia have not yet been revealed.
