Mickey Rourke condemns GoFundMe amid eviction threat: “I wouldn’t ask for no charity”
Mickey Rourke has denounced the GoFundMe set up to aid him amid his possible eviction from his Los Angeles home.
The fundraiser was initially launched on GoFundMe on January 4th, after the Oscar-nominated actor was reportedly served a notice last month to pay $60,000 he was behind in rent payments, or be forced to vacate his property.
As of writing, the GoFundMe has raised $97,000 of its $100,000 goal. However, Rourke has now distanced himself from the online fundraiser.
In an Instagram video, he told his followers, “Something’s come up that I’m really frustrated, confused and I don’t understand.”
Rourke added, “Somebody set up some kind of foundation or fund for me to donate money. A charity. And that’s not me. If I needed money I wouldn’t ask for no charity. I’d rather stick a gun up my ass and pull the trigger.”
In a bid to further denounce the scheme, he added, “Whoever did this, I don’t know why they did it. I wouldn’t know what a GoFundMe is in a million years.”
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the GoFundMe was launched by Liya-Joelle Jones, assistant to Kimberly Hines, who has spent a decade as Rourke’s manager. They both previously told the aforementioned publication that Rourke approved the GoFundMe before it went live.
Furthermore, the description for the GoFundMe reads, “This fundraiser is being created with Mickey’s full permission to help cover immediate housing-related expenses and prevent that from happening.”
It also says of the aim for the GoFundMe, “The goal is simple: to give Mickey stability and peace of mind during an extremely stressful time—so he can stay in his home and have the space to get back on his feet.”
Rourke appeared in Celebrity Big Brother in the UK in 2025, but was thrown out due to making sexual and aggressive verbal comments towards two fellow contestants.
As a result of his exit, Rourke allegedly only received £50,000 of his agreed £500,000 fee to take part in the show, and plotted to sue broadcaster ITV.
He also has several films in the pipeline that are set for release.
