Mickey Rourke starts fundraiser to avoid being evicted from Los Angeles home
Mickey Rourke has started a fundraiser to avoid potentially being evicted from his home in Los Angeles.
The fundraiser was launched via GoFundMe on January 4th, after the actor was reportedly served a notice last month to pay $60,000 he was behind in rent payments, or be forced to vacate his property, according to People.
Over half of the target for the ‘Help Mickey Rourke Stay in His Home’ fundraiser has now been met, with over $51,000 having been donated to a $100,000 goal.
The description on the fundraising page reads: “Mickey Rourke entered American cinema like a force of nature—raw, fearless, and utterly original. In the late 1970s and 1980s, he wasn’t just a movie star; he was a symbol of something rare: danger paired with vulnerability, toughness paired with heart.”
It goes on to describe Rourke’s various “struggles” over the years, namely how the industry “moved on quickly” and forgot about him after his prime success.
It explains that the fundraiser has been created with Rourke’s permission to allow him a chance to counter the threat of being evicted from his home. “Fame does not protect against hardship, and talent does not guarantee stability. What remains is a person who deserves dignity, housing, and the chance to regain his footing,” the description added.
Rourke became a celebrated hero of the action movie genre in the 1980s, before his controversial persona and views eventually saw him shunned by the industry.
Most recently, the 73-year-old took part in the British reality TV show Celebrity Big Brother in 2025, where he was evicted from the house early due to making sexual and aggressive verbal comments towards two fellow contestants.
In April 2025, Rourke said he planned to sue the broadcaster ITV after allegedly only receiving £50,000 of his agreed £500,000 fee to take part in the show.
