Michael Rappaport claims he’s lost jobs due to support of Israel
Actor Michael Rapaport has spoken about how his career opportunities have dwindled, claiming that this is because of his vocal support for Israel.
Rapaport began his career in the 1990s and has since starred in many television shows and movies. His most notable roles came in the ‘90s with features in Friends and True Romance. He’s also starred in My Name Is Earl, Prison Break, Atypical and voiced a character for The Simpsons.
However, the actor has claimed that lately, he has been having difficulty finding work. In his view, this is all because of his vocal support for Israel during their ongoing conflict in Gaza, which, in November 2024, the UN ruled Israel’s warfare tactics against Palestine to be consistent with the characteristics of genocide.
In an interview with Jewish World Weekly, Rapaport talked about the obstacles he faces in the entertainment world. “There’s been, um, how do I say it, there’s been, um, there’s been some issues in terms of getting jobs as an actor,” he said before addressing how his advocacy for Israel has impacted him.
“Have you had a lot of pushback? Do you get threats, and are these something that like scares you or concerns you?” the journalist asked, to which Rapaport responded, “I get threats on social media,” Rapaport replied.
“I think if you don’t get threats on social media, you’re not doing social media right,” he added.
However, he claimed that doesn’t bother him. “Those don’t concern me. I’ve had comedy shows protested. That doesn’t concern me.” In his eyes, his advocacy is necessary as he said, “Being supportive of Jews, being supportive of Israel, being supportive of our people, was not a choice. It was very, and is very natural and organic, to me.”
Despite the impact on his career, the actor added, “I don’t have the slightest bit of regret. I don’t. There was no choice.”
