Protestors disrupt Gal Gadot’s ‘Walk of Fame’ ceremony
On March 18th, actor Gal Gadot received a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. However, the ceremony was disrupted by pro-Palestine protestors due to previous comments Gadot made about Israel.
Immediately after the Hamas attack on 7th October 2023, Gadot, who served in the Israeli Defence Forces between 2005 and 2007, took to social media and wrote, “I stand with Israel. You should too. The world cannot sit on the fence when these horrific acts of terror are happening!” This is a stance she has stuck to, posting again in December of that year to call upon the United Nations to demand the release of every female hostage taken by Hamas and claiming, “the world has failed the women of October 7th.”
In a recent interview with Variety, she claimed that she now no longer shares her beliefs online due to the backlash she received. “After October 7th, I don’t talk politics — because who cares about the celebrity talking about politics? I’m an artist. I want to entertain people. I want to bring hope and be a beacon of light whenever I say anything about the world.”
However, she did share that her view has not changed, adding, “But on October 7th, when people were abducted from their homes, from their beds, men, women, children, elderly, Holocaust survivors, were going through the horrors of what happened that day, I could not be silent. I was shocked by the amount of hate, by the amount of how much people think they know when they actually have no idea, and also by how the media is not fair many times. So I had to speak up.”
As she unveiled her new star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame during the release cycle for her new live-action Snow White, pro-Palestinian protesters were present at the event. The ceremony happened on the day that Israel broke the ceasefire, resuming bombing Gaza and killing over 400 Palestinians.
In videos posted online, protestors chanted “shame on Gal Gadot” and held signs reading phrases like “Heroes Fight Like Palestinians” and “Viva Viva Palestina”. The protestors caused the ceremony to begin 15 minutes late and could be heard over the speeches at the ceremony.
At one point, conflict broke out after a pro-Palestinian protestor stole a flag from a pro-Israel protestor. It is reported that around two dozen people gathered for each side.
