Michael Madsen issues statement following domestic violence arrest
Reservoir Dogs star Michael Madsen has denied all allegations of wrongdoing after he was arrested on a domestic violence charge on August 17th.
In the early hours of August 17th, police from the Lost Hill Sheriff Station in Malibu received a call regarding a disturbance at the Madsen residence. Upon responding, they arrested the 66-year-old actor for a domestic battery misdemeanour and charged him following an incident with is wife, DeAnna Madsen.
Madsen was then held in custody before being released after posting a $20,000 bond. Initially, in a statement provided to Variety, a spokesperson said of the arrest, “It was a disagreement between Michael and his wife, which we hope resolves positively for them both.”
The actor has been separated from DeAnna for two years, with the couple parting ways in the aftermath of the death of their son, Hudson, in 2022.
The full details of the arrest have yet to come to light, but in a statement provided to the BBC by the Lost Hill Sheriff Station in Malibu, they said deputies responded to a “family disturbance” at the property around 1:40am on August 17th. According to the police department, a woman alleged “her husband pushed her and locked her out of their residence.”
Now, Madsen’s attorney Perry Wander has denied the allegation, claiming DeAnna “broke into” Madsen’s Malibu property before the actor was arrested.
Perry claimed: “Michael has shown immense compassion and restraint during this period towards his estranged wife. He’s definitely not guilty of domestic violence.”
The latest arrest isn’t the first time that Madsen has found himself in legal trouble following the death of his son. A few weeks after Hudson’s tragic passing, The Hateful Eight actor was arrested for trespassing in Malibu after the police received a call from a local property owner who wanted to press charges against Madsen. After a short stay in custody, he was handed a $500 citation for the misdemeanour.
Following Hudson’s death in 2022, Madsen spoke publicly about his grief to the Los Angeles Times, stating, “I didn’t see any signs of depression. It’s so tragic and sad. I’m just trying to make sense of everything and understand what happened. He had typical life challenges that people have with finances, but he wanted a family. He was looking towards his future, so it’s mind blowing. I just can’t grasp what happened.”
