Mia Goth joins Shawn Levy’s ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ alongside Ryan Gosling

Mia Goth has joined the cast of director Shawn Levy’s upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter movie.

The film was officially announced in April with Ryan Gosling in the lead role. His character is a heroic uncle fighting to save his nephew against a group of evil forces, involving Goth’s character.

It will focus on new characters within the Star Wars universe and is set five years after 2019’s Star Wars: Episode IX—The Rise of Skywalker. Levy’s longstanding collaborator, Jonathan Tropper, wrote the screenplay.

The movie is set to open in cinemas on May 28th, 2027, and production is expected to begin in England later this year.

Goth’s role was previously offered to Oscar-winner Mikey Madison, who turned down the opportunity to appear in the blockbuster. Earlier this week, it was revealed Madison had instead chosen A24’s Masque of the Red Death as her next project, replacing Sydney Sweeney in the lead role after she pulled out for scheduling reasons.

Levy, who directed Deadpool & Wolverine, said of the upcoming film at Star Wars Celebration in Japan in April: “This is a stand-alone. It’s not a prequel, not a sequel. It’s a new adventure. It’s set in a period of time that we haven’t seen explored yet.”

At the same event, Gosling said: “The force is a mysterious thing, but, as I’m here, the force is the fans. All we can hope for is, ‘May the fans be with us.”

Levy also spoke about his respect for the franchise, sharing with those in Japan, “We’re fans too. There’s obviously a relationship between these stories and the audience, but we’ve spent our lives in that audience. We know how meaningful it is.”

Goth, whose involvement in Star Wars: Starfighter was first revealed by The InSneider, is also set to appear in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.
