Metallica concert saves Virginia family from deadly crash
A family from Virginia have Metallica to thank for saving their lives, after a truck ploughed into their living room.
On May 7th, the McKee family escaped the deadly crash, which saw the truck barrelling into their house at 2am. The family have publicly credited escaping the near-miss to Metallica, as they had all gone to bed early in order to prepare for the concert.
David and Kristin McKee explained to WDBJ7 News that they usually stay up late to watch TV in their living room. Just a few hours after their abnormally early night, the couple recalls, “We heard a loud explosion, glass shatter, and it was just madness from that point on.”
They added, “We were so fortunate that, that night, my daughter could have walked down that hallway and found us in the rubble. I thank God every day, and Metallica, for saving us.”
Unfortunately, the accident left their home unlivable, so the family missed out on the May 7th concert. The 14-year-old Metallica fan, however, was grateful her parents survived. She wrote a letter to the band, that began: “You saved my parents’ lives. I will be forever grateful.”
At the very same Virginia concert the family missed at Virginia Tech’s Lane Stadium on May 8th, the band caused such a stir that they caused seismic activity. The reaction to Metallica’s entrance in the stadium of 60,000 people hit the seismograph one mile away. The minor seismic activity, quickly dubbed the “Metallica Quake” online, posed no danger to concert-goers.
The band have also recently announced a UK and European tour. The run of dates is set to begin on May 9th in Athens at the Olympic Stadium. Metallica will then head to Bucharest, Romania on May 13th before performing at Stadion Śląski in Chorzów, Poland on May 19th.
They will also perform in Frankfurt and Budapest, the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, and the London Stadium in the English capital. Metallica’s UK tour will also include visits to Hampden Park in Glasgow and the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
