Mckenna Grace lands Daphne role in Netflix ‘Scooby-Doo’ live-action series
Mckenna Grace has officially landed the role of Daphne in the upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series from Netflix and Berlanti Productions.
Grace will play the orange-haired detective in the eight-episode series, which will be written by Midnight Radio’s Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg. The pair is best known for their work on the anime series Cowboy Bebop.
Taking to social media to share the news, Grace posted a throwback photo, which showed her dressed as Daphne as a young child. She captioned the post, “Oh my jeepers! I can’t believe life is real. I could cry all over again just looking at this announcement. So thankful, SO excited.”
The Netflix series doesn’t yet have a title, but according to Deadline, it will follow the origin story of the Mystery Inc group, depicting the first-ever curious case that required their collaboration and started everything.
The show will be set at a summer camp, where old friends Shaggy and Daphne find themselves at the heart of a mystery surrounding a lost Great Dane puppy that might have witnessed a supernatural murder. Recruiting scientific townie Velma for their quest, as well as the attractive new-kid-on-the-block, Freddy, the gang set out to solve the mystery.
Grace is no stranger to the Scooby-Doo franchise; she previously voiced Young Daphne in the animated movie Scoob!
Additionally, it has been newly announced that Frank Welker is set to voice Scooby-Doo in the live-action series gearing up for production.
Grace has starred in notable blockbusters before, including Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, as well as the adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel Regretting You for Paramount.
Up next, she has a stacked line-up of releases, including Scream 7 and Anniversary. Most notable of all, Grace landed the role of Maysilee Donner in the upcoming dystopian thriller, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
