Mckenna Grace cast in ‘Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping has confirmed that Mckenna Grace will play Maysilee Donner in the new addition to the much-loved dystopian world.
The upcoming feature is based on Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games book of the same name, set 40 years after the prequel The Ballads of Songbirds & Snakes, but 24 years before the initial Hunger Games series.
Grace will feature alongside actors Joseph Zada and Whitney Peak. Zada will star as District 12 tribute Haymitch Abernathy while Peak will portray his girlfriend Lenore Dove Baird.
Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-president Erin Westerman shared of the casting: “The Hunger Games franchise has long been a launching pad for remarkable young actors, and Jo and Whitney carry that legacy forward with incredible heart, depth, and fire.”
Grace has starred in notable blockbusters before, including Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. She will next be seen in the adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel Regretting You for Paramount.
Up next, she has a stacked line-up of releases, including Blumhouse’s Kiss of Death, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, Scream 7, and Anniversary.
Published on March 18th, 2025, Sunrise on the Reaping sold 1.5 million copies of the book in its first week on sale in the US, UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The movie franchise has been just as successful: the five films in the franchise have taken in more than $3.3 billion at the global box office.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping will be released on November 20th, 2026. Francis Lawrence will return to the director’s chair.
